Some clients come to us because they want to renovate their home entirely from top to bottom, while others want us to undertake a more targeted approach to bring particular areas of the property in to line with the rest of the house.

The latter was the case with this Adelaide townhouse bathroom and kitchen renovation, where we were able to bring the design and decoration of these rooms up to the same high standard that exists throughout the rest of the property.

What did the client want from this Kitchen and bATHROOM RENOVATION?

This stylish and sophisticated Adelaide townhouse has a contemporary look and feel throughout, with high quality features and a well designed use of space. However, the kitchen and bathroom were not as well appointed and were out of step with the overall look and feel of the property.

Creating spaces that were as well designed as the rest of the home, while still matching the lifestyle needs of the owners, was the ultimate aim of the project.

What was the original house like?

The rest of the property is designed to the highest standards and is spacious and luxurious throughout. It has a contemporary look that incorporates the best features of modern design, and is uncluttered and comfortable.

However, the kitchen and wet areas still retained fixtures and fittings from an earlier time, and so were out of keeping with the look elsewhere in this very well appointed inner-city property. These spaces needed to be brought up to date to give the house a more coherent design style throughout.

What were the client’s “must haves” for this Renovation?

One of the client’s key aims was to create a spacious and luxurious ensuite bathroom that would be a pleasure to use, as well as fitting in better with the overall look and feel of the property. This meant updating the fixtures and fittings, reconfiguring the available space, and improving the quality of the lighting. In order to use the space more effectively (and to better reflect their lifestyle), the owners of the property also wanted us to remove the bath and create an open walk-in shower.

They also wanted a consistent design style in all of the wet areas, and this was achieved through installing stone bench tops throughout, including as part of the kitchen renovation.

Key pieces of furniture and fittings

We installed a number of new fixtures and fittings that enabled us to meet the client’s design goals. These included:

  • Rugged concrete Caesarstone benchtops in both the bathroom and kitchen;
  • Waterfall edges on the kitchen benchtops, which creates an eye-catching and stylish floating effect;
  • Spacious floating vanity unit in the ensuite bathroom; and
  • Huge walk-in curved shower, featuring sophisticated finger mosaic tiles.

What was significant about this Adelaide townhouse renovation?

There were several areas that required detailed planning and careful execution to ensure that they achieved the client’s goals.

The most significant of these was probably the removal of the existing spa bath tub in the ensuite bathroom, and replacing it with an open walk-in shower. This also required the installation of a stripgrate, which gave the shower space definition and was more in keeping with the look and feel of the rest of the bathroom.

why does this Kitchen and Bathroom renovation work?

The key to the success of this Adelaide home renovation project is the way the tones and textures used in the kitchen mean that it is now in keeping with the rest of the property. This is achieved through the contrast between the kitchen cupboards and benchtops, and in particular the splashback (which is actually the original precast wall, which was discovered when we carefully removed the existing glass splashback). The other highlight of the kitchen renovation is the suspended waterfall edges, which creates an effect that makes it look as though the kitchen floating in mid-air.

When it comes to the bathroom renovation, the newly created sense of space is the undoubted highlight. The semi floating vanity unit now sits in front of the window, allowing light to flood the room, while the open shower also contributes to the bathroom’s spacious feel. The new toilet cistern and bowl also add to the sophisticated look and feel of the bathroom, and all of this has met the client’s aims of making this a much more pleasurable (and practical) space to be in.
