A Unique, Striking Home Transformation in Mitcham

The Client's Story

The original house was non-liveable and had a floor plan that was stuck in the 50’s. The flooring and roof was giving way in multiple places and it was quiet evident that there had been no maintenance on the property for a long time. Given the age and other factors throughout the home’s life some of the walls where out of square which made it difficult when building internal walls. There were countless hours spent brainstorming and check measuring before installing any walls and windows.

The client wanted to achieve a full home transformation that would be inviting and striking as you entered. They wanted to maximise the spectacular views of the city and bring the floor plan back to a standard of today including:

* Complete new internals to all rooms
* Open plan living
* Entertaining/decking and main bedroom overlooking the city

There were many structural challenges to this renovation given the age of the home, but as always, our team worked with the clients to create a plan that would achieve their dream renovation.

After

The floor plan was completely changed and we took the necessary time to rebuild many aspects from the ground up. The ceilings required remedial work in the roof frame and certain areas of the timber roof structure were reinforced to bring it back to its original levels.

We added in an ensuite, walk-in-robe and a main bedroom as well as opening up the living space with a more functional kitchen. The ensuite was quite unique, built in the middle of the house due to many factors, but was the most effective way to achieve the best outcome.

Wet areas throughout were updated and was not without it’s challenges. The original build was backfilled against the under croft without any form of waterproof. This was not only causing damage on the internals of the under croft but affecting the integrity of the footings. We dug down to the original footing around the perimeter of the house and applied a bullet proof waterproofing system for complete peace of mind.

Externally, a complete transformation of the roof tiles, gutters and eaves was undertaken and a new raised deck was built to capture the city views.
